The University of Michigan’s mascot is the Wolverine, yet alum David H. “Orac” Gorski acts more like the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz
Instead of “Orac” is god, I believe “Orac”
is Oz
Oz the Cowardly Lion hides behind the curtains and refuses to debate on-line or in person
[1] – 8/30/2013 – So, again, I decided to do his research for him, since he seems unable to do proper “Science Based Medicine” research
[2] – .5/17/2011 – Burzynski tells how he was working on his PhD thesis in biochemistry (Investigations on amino acids and peptides in blood serum of healthy people and patients with chronic renal insufficiency 1968; Lublin. Poland: 274 pp (doctoral dissertation)), and he describes how he was investigating peptides and amino acids in blood
[3] – 3/2010 – Burzynski advises that he investigated how these small proteins and derivatives of amino acids, were a group of chemicals, small peptides, which were deficient in cancer patients
He called these antineoplastons, which means: Chemicals which work against cancer
[2] – .5/17/2011 – Burzynski relates how peptides are small proteins, and patients with cancer do not have enough of those chemicals
He couldn’t continue his research in Poland, so on Labor Day in 1970 he emigrated to the Bronx, and later moved to Texas where he was hired at the Baylor College of Medicine because of his experience with researching peptides
He inherited treatment and labs from Nobel prize winner Gilman and Schalet (Polish), and at age 27, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) gave a grant where he was the Principle Investigator and was in charge of a group which included a team from M.D. Anderson with guys experienced with cancer and old enough to be his father
He says that peptides were isolated from blood and that every peptide fraction they tried had some activity against cancer in the lab
What was interesting was that the chemicals did NOT inhibit / kill normal cells, unlike others, including salt, which would kill cancer cells AND normal cells
It took 7 years to characterize the molecules and chemical structures
1976 presented the data at one of largest meetings in the US, the American Societies for Experimental Biology
1976 they were ready to start animal studies, and he tried to get the “o.k.” from the Baylor IRB, but Baylor said to get the “ok” from the FDA, who said to get the “ok” from the IRB at Baylor
In the 2nd part of the interview, Dr. Oz, as opposed to “Orac” of Oz, interjects that it’s important to save tissue from any surgery, and that tissue is sent off to Arizona for testing
Burzynski tells how insurance or Medicare should cover the test, which is usually completed within 2 weeks
That instead of treating the “type” of cancer, testing can map genes and identify the cancer genome that causes the cancer
Then use genome analysis of 24,000 genes to identify medications that will treat the genes that cause cancer and select the combination that will work on cancer genes that cause cancer, which includes reviewing phase 2 and / or or 3 trials for medication(s) that went through clinical trials
There are about 1,200 different medications approved by the FDA
Medications which cover a broad spectrum of diseases
Different medications which work on other diseases also work on cancer genes
Celebrex can work on cancer genes
4 or 5 medicines may be sufficient to cover the genes involved
Some medicines cover more than one gene
Other medications may cover genes not covered by antineoplastons
2,000-4,000 genes assist cancer
Burzynski states that 500 genes don’t have to be covered
These genes work in the pathway and if 100 to 200 different genes are covered by the medication, then the cancer can be treated
Antineoplastons cover a spectrum of 100 genes involved in cancer
[4] – .5/21/2011 – Antineoplastons are peptides and derivatives of amino acids that act as molecular switches
Burzynski discovered antineoplastons work as genetic switches
They turn off genes that cause cancer
This means oncogenes
They turn on or activate genes that fight cancer, which are chemo suppressor genes
Antineoplastons turn off approximately 80% of genes, which are oncogenes and turn on about 20%, which are chemo suppressor genes
Gene p53, when activated can kill cancer cells
For some patients, that’s enough
[5] – 12/12/2012 – Gorski posited:
“You know what you call a drug that works on “close to 100 genes”?”
“I don’t know either, but you don’t call it a “targeted” therapy unless all those genes are genes affected by the single target being inhibited; i.e., are downstream targets of the gene targeted by antineoplastons”
[6] – 8/21/2013 – Gorski, how do you NOT know if “the single target being inhibited … are downstream targets of the gene targeted by antineoplastons”, when you did NOT even know which of Burzynski’s publications discuss which genes are “targeted by antineoplastons” ?
